Ookjin You, die aus Seoul, Süd Korea kommt, ist einer bejubelte Klavierspielerin in ihre Generation und als ein Künstler, der die Tiefe, die Sensitivität und das virtuose Flair hat, hoch betrachtet.
Im Rezital, das sich von Dr. You in der USA, Europa, und Asien stattgefunden war, waren die Kammermusik- Kooperationen einschließlich mit den Bariton Anthony Moreno und David Castillo, den Geigerinnen Han Byul Jang, Chloe Gam und Marina Lenau, den Cellisten/-Innen Mike Kaufmann, Benjamin Lash, Unmi Han, Bingxia Lu und Jonathan Dormand durchgeführt. Ihr Debüt in der renommierten Seoul Sejong Arts Center und Young San Art Hall mit Seoul Symphony Orchester brachte ihr eine sofortige Einladung zu den Rising Stars Serien von Journal of Music in Seoul ein.
Sie hat ihr Lernen unter der Anleitung von Kyung Mi Lee angefangen. Danach hat sie bei Myung Sun Kye in Ewha Women's Universität, wo sie ihr Bachelor abgeschlossen hat. You hat ihr Studium bei Rolf Plagge in der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, wo sie ihr Magisterstudium und Post Graduate abgeschlossen hat. Danach hat sie beim Norman Krieger und Jeffrey Kahane in Los Angeles in den USA studiert und ihr DMA Diplom am University of Southern California bekommen, wo sie auch mit Drs. Alan Smith, Beatrice Ilari, Stewart Gordon und Nick Strimple zusammengearbeitet hat.
Als ein Meisterin von zeitgenössischer Musik bietet sie die Musik von Mauricio Kagel, Mark Lanz Weiser, Alan Smith, Carl Vollrath, Luciano Berio und Simone Fontanelli zu ihrem aktiven Repertoire.
Im Januar, 2020 wurde sie als ein Adjunct Professor für Klavier an der John M. Long Musikschule an der Troy- Universität in den USA.
Ookjin You’s concert activities have taken her around the globe. She has performed in Germany, Austria, France, Spain, South Korea, Japan and throughout the United States.
As a featured soloist, Ook Jin You debuted with Seoul Symphony Orchestra with the work of Edvard Grieg.
Ook Jin has enjoyed 21 years of experience in the private, public and community settings as a pianist and a music educator.
She teaches applied solo piano and coaches collaborative ensembles. After graduating Yewon Conservatory and Seoul Arts High School with honors, Dr. You received a Bachelor Degree in Piano Performance from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, a Masters Degree in Piano Performance (Klavier Konzertfach) from the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria, Europe, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from University of Southern California, where she had minor fields in Music Education and Keyboard Collaborative. Her principal teachers are Kyoung Mi Lee, Myung Sun Kye, Wan Kyu Cheong, Guk Im Son, Min Jung Lee, Seung Sun Oh, Jeong Won Suh, Norman Krieger, Jeffrey Kahane, Alan L. Smith and Rolf Plagge who is the first German prize winner at the prestigious Moscow Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in July 1990.
In 2012, with her former teacher, Norman Krieger, she has been invited and performed at Art & Music in celebration of Envisioning Modernism at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, in Los Angeles, CA.
Her solo performance has been broadcasted on Classical KUSC, the only classical radio in the greater Los Angeles Area.
She frequently presents new music by living composers and in August 2016, Ookjin You premiered Korean-American Composer Nak-Keum Paik’s Succession at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles with Brass Ensemble and Los Angeles Korean-American Musicians’ Association. With her chamber music partner, Un-Mi Han who is cellist at Thüringen Philharmonie and former cellist at Linzer Bruckner Orchester, Dr. You has performed in Bad Düremburg, Germany, Salzburg, Austria, Daejeon, and in Seoul, South Korea and was the first prizewinner of the National Music Journal Competition.
Currently she serves as an Adjunct Professor at John M. Long School of Music. Prior to this institution, Dr. You had been appointed to Adjunct Professor at Faulkner University since August 2019.
Dr. You is active as an adjudicator as well. She has been an adjudicator for the 2019 - 2022 ACES Competition, 2022 Birmingham Music Guild Scholarship Audition and as a board member of local AMTA, she was serving on Georgia Music Teachers Association Auditions’ Adjudicator in 2020.
As a scholar, Ook-Jin’s main research is in the area of J. S. Bach studies, and specifically in the theoretical principles of developing polyphonic and motivic unity which underpin Bach’s compositional style.
Ook-Jin is available for guest lectures and master classes including guest recitals.
